How To Start Home Schooling In Different States
In certain states, you have to get a formal lesson plan made and approved by a local school board. This way your child gets the same education as the students in the public school while studying at home. Other states may not have such stringent requirements of home schooling. You may need to just submit a notice stating your intention to home school your child to an official of the local school. After that you can choose your curriculum and methods of teaching your child.
Tests And Assessments
Different states have different requirements of home schooling to assess your child. There are some states where the child will have to give the same evaluation tests that students in public schools have to give. There are certain certified teachers who will evaluate the home schooled child. Other states do not require such an assessment and in fact leave it up to the parents to assess the child because they are the best judges of their childs progress.
Graduation Process
The graduation requirements of home schooling also differ from state to state. Home schooling is treated like private schools in some states and the same graduation procedures are followed. Some home schooled students graduate on the basis of the evaluation done by the local school and do not follow any formal process. Home schooled students in some states do not even receive any formal diploma upon graduation but are still accepted into universities and colleges.
You can adopt different ways of teaching your child according to the requirements of home schooling in your state. In California, for example, you may use any of three options. You could enroll your child in a private school, hire a credited tutor at home or join a public independent home schooling program. You could even start a private school for your child where you would have to submit a progress report to the Department of Education annually.
You will be ready to start home schooling your child once you have the details of all the requirements of home schooling in your state.
