Etopps Trading Cards – An Introduction

Etopps is an online sporting community that was created by one of the top sports card producers, The Topps Company, Inc. Topps forayed into the field of sports card production as early as 1951. Topps produced baseball cards initially that had the player's portrait on one side of the card and his statistical information and biography on the other side. The cards were designed and conceptualized by, Sy Berger an employee at Topps. The cards were introduced as two sets, red and blue backs. Topps' first card of Mickey Mantle card 311 is one of the most valuable sports cards of all times. Many people who had bought baseball cards as kids were amazed when the same cards became collector's items with huge price tags.

In the year 2000, on its 50th anniversary of launching the first baseball cards, Topps introduced a new brand of sports cards in partnership with eBay called Etopps. The Etopps trading cards are traded exclusively in the site www.etopps.com. Users are able to buy, trade, and sell cards produced by Topps at the site. Baseball, hockey, basketball, football, etc. are some of the cards that are dealt with in the site and soon people will have the chance of doing business in Etopps with wrestling trading cards too.

How Etopps Works

People can trade sports cards similar to shares in the stock market. Etopps releases the initial Player Offerings of new cards that are available in limited quantities. People can buy the Etopps trading cards and have four options available to them. Once an IPO closes, the cards are not offered again. Cards are offered in very limited quantities ranging between 3000 and 12000. The price of the Etopps trading cards ranges between $3 to about $10.

People may purchase and then let their cards remain physically with Topps while they keep track of their possessions in a personal online portfolio. People who have purchased an Etopps trading card may trade their card with others in the Etopps trading floor. People may also opt to have the cards shipped out to them [shipping charges apply] in tamper proof cases and in mint condition. People may also sell their cards similar to stocks in the Etopps trading floor which is managed by eBay.

People may keep track of the Etopps trading card prices and their current value by looking up the Etopps trading floor summary. People make profits by buying low and selling high. This has given sports buffs a community to fuel their interest in their game as well as a platform whereby they can safely invest in the cards.
