Salaries of Women in Business


In considering salaries of women in business we will discuss salaries of women employed by various businesses and institutions, rather than income of women owning their own businesses. The salaries of women in business have undergone major change in the last few decades, but salaries of women in business still lag behind those of men in comparable positions.

To go back a few years in considering salaries of women ;in business, one might look at an example or two.  For instance, salaries of women in the advertising business might be compared to that of their male counterparts in a medium sized advertising agency.  While a woman copywriter might be earning $200 per week working on a major account her male fellow worker would earn $300 to $400 for comparable work. The salaries of women in business in other areas were comparably beneath those of men. Of course the salaries of women in business as well as those of men were overall much lower a few decades ago.

In the aforementioned business, salaries of women in business have vastly improved. In many other areas, the financial field, for instance, salaries of women in business have reached all time highs. However, the salaries of women in business still lag behind those of male counterparts in most industries.

The salaries of women in business at the top would have astonished working women of a few decades ago. Most would have found it unbelievable that a woman executive could earn $30 million annually, which is the salary of Zoe Cruz, Co-President of Morgan Stanley. Amazing as this is relating to the salaries of women in business, it is scarcely comparable to the multiple millions earned by some male CEOs.

If it is the primary interest of a woman in business to move into the highest salary range of women in business,then she needs to look at the records early in her career to determine the salaries of women in business in various fields. Career planning should begin at the educational level, and career moves be made to take advantage of every opportunity related to the salaries of women in business in the chosen field. As the field changes, and the world changes in various directions, sometimes a change in course is necessary.  However, the possibiliies for higher salaries of women in business are improving annually. A look at the achievements of women in the business world, and the related increases in salaries for women in business, should encourage more and more women to aim for the top in positions of management in every industry.  .
