Some Deadly Link Building Myths

There are many link building myths that are followed by the webmasters faithfully. The many test results have revealed that these are incorrect theories. Mostly, these have been either misunderstood or have been invented by some gurus who are just seeking attention. Let us go through some of these commonly heard and followed myths on link building.

Some Common Link Building Myths

Dead link exchanges- This means that you are about to lose many back links if your refuse link exchanges. The link exchange method is still as active as it earlier was, and there is nothing like a dead link exchange.
The higher you rank on the page, the higher you would be on the search results listings- People often notice that a higher page rank helps them get noticed better. But it is very normal for a site to appear higher in the listings even when it has a low page rank. Even otherwise the page ranks have become a big target for manipulations.
The toolbar lists your actual page rank- The toolbar is a boon for the webmasters as they can see all values related to the page rank. However, the toolbar does not show the actual page rank. It only shows an indication of the rank on a scale of 1-10.
The page rank is based on the number of incoming links to the site and is value based- Many incorrect assumptions have given birth to this myth. People tend to notice that a site with fewer links than their own site has a lower ranking, and assume that rankings depend on the number of incoming links.

The link building myth that the number of links determines the rank of the page is not true. It may be true that the page rank is based on the inbound links coming to a particular site. But the value of these sites is kept more in mind than the number. To know the value of a link, you can take a look at the PR on the source page and divide it by the number of links on that page. The page rank is not calculated on a site basis. The internal links between the pages are also taken into consideration. Make sure that you structure your site properly so that the internal linkages can also improve your rankings.

Link building myths include another aspect wherein people searching for incoming links using link, to show them all the backward links. This situation where you would be searching for links would yield only zero results. Do not waste your time looking for back links in such a fashion. Another common myth is the duplicate content theory. There is no such thing. Submitting your article again and again to the directories is a good thing. You do not need to spin titles or descriptions. Your website would not get banned by submitting articles with the same content.

Make sure that you do not fall for these link building myths. Every now and then, new theories would come up, stick to what works and do not believe all new things blindly.
