What Every Successful Blogger Ought To Know

Many people say that that you do not need much to be a great blogger. Well, let me tell you what many people say can often be wrong. There are a number of things you have to know before you can make your blog rake it in for you.

Understand The Technology
You dont have to be a nerd or know complex computer science algorithms because practically everything is available readymade for you to use. But you do need to know the basics of the technology you are using. Unless you are willing to put in the hard work required to do this, youd be better off doing hobby blogging and not thinking of any serious stuff because you will only lose time and money.

At the very least, you will need to be very conversant with a few of the blog creating software and the essentials of web technology such as HTML, RSS, syndication and links, trackbacks and affiliate links, search engines and search engine optimization. If you think I am scaring you, add traffic statistics, contextual advertising and full and partial feeds. Oh! Yes, there is a lot to learn if you want your blog to replace your current employer.

While you dont need to be a master of all these technologies, and there is more that I havent mentioned yet, but you do need to be able to understand them well enough and use them effectively.

Dont Be Satisfied With One Niche
Many bloggers seem to get satisfied with finding a niche and they stick to it. Dont. You need to be on the lookout for additional sources of revenue if you are seriously keen to convert your blog into cash flow and, one day, quit your day job. Since it hardly costs you anything to set up a blog and start attracting ads to it, why not keep more than one iron in the fire? Do not let go of opportunities simply because you were lazy or too timid.

There are even a number of sites that give you information on great new income generating tips. Hunt for such sites, see developing trends and try and stay ahead of the pack. Just remember that every days delay is costing you lost traffic and that directly translates into cash.

Look Around You
How many blogs do you see per day? In your early days, I would recommend spending all your spare time on the web looking up other blogs. See how they are generating traffic and the techniques they follow. I can bet that early in your career, you will learn something from every one. Even if it is what you must not do!
