Drawing How To Draw Human Figure

Drawing a figure is a challenging task. It needs a lot of concentration and some special skills. When it comes to depicting the exact human figure, you may feel intimidated and annoyed when trying to do all at once. That is why a step-by-step approach is preferable for practicing. Here are some useful suggestions on how to improve figure-drawing skills.

Basic Understanding Of Human Anatomy Is Necessary
A fundamental knowledge of human anatomy is much useful in drawing figures. So, prior to beginning your drawing project in which you have to draw human figures, you should learn the anatomy of the human body. No, you don't have to remember the names of different bones, tendons and muscles in the body for this. You just need to know the structure of the body and its proportions. A primary understanding is enough to meet your requirements.

It is the proportions that create the greatest difficulty for the beginners when they start drawing human figures. Experts have devised a technique to help you get the correct proportions. Head of the model is used as unit in this system. Standard size for an erect figure is 7.5 to 8 heads. However, you can make some alterations in this standard depending upon the theme of your drawing project. When the pose of the figure is not standing erect, then the changes in dimensions becomes more obvious.

To get the size of the head you should stand at some distance from the subject. Now, take hold of the pencil and pull out your arm as much as you can in the direction of the subject. Keep your head at rest. Close your one eye and try to see the top of the head with the other eye through the tip of the pencil. Slide down your thumb on the pencil to the place where it matches with the chin. This is the size of the head and you can use it as unit for drawing the complete figure in exact proportions. During entire process you should not change your position.

Pose is also an important aspect of the drawing project. Whatever pose you select it should give the impression of being natural. The model has to be in same position for an extended period so it should not be uncomfortable for him or her. Lighting conditions also affect the final outcome to a great extent. You have to take into account so many factors like whether it is an indoor project or outdoor one. In case of indoor, you have to choose from natural sunlight or artificial light.
