Film Production

Film production is a complex art. Film production requires many people working together to reach a common goal. Film production requires creativity. Film production requires technical skill. Film production takes money. Film production takes time. Film production requires hard work and long hours. But at the end of all this, you have a finished film, maybe even a work of art.

Film production begins with an idea. Someone has an idea for a film. Maybe only the scant outline of a story. But film production begins here with an idea. Friends or acquaintances who are in the film business. They know film production. They know what might be interesting enough to get made into a film. So at this point in the film production process, they collaborate on a script treatment. This is the next step in film production. They work out o one or two page treatment so they can shop the idea around and maybe get financing for a film production.

Film production takes money and usually it takes more than any average person has. So to proceed with your film production, you need to find backers. The film production depends on getting money from individual investors, corporate investors or maybe even a film studio. If the film production idea is good enough and you have the right contacts, you might be able to get the film production project approved by a film studio. This would be good for the film production because they have money and facilities, and equipment and contacts. All of which you can use for your film production.

But being bankrolled by a studio also has its downside. You lose a lot of control over your film production and you have to put up with a lot of interference. So maybe you want to go the independent film production route. If you can find enough investors, you can do your film production as an independent. Then you have more personal control over your film production. But raising millions of dollars for a speculative thing like a film production isn't easy. And investing that kind of money in a film production makes some people very nervous.

If your investors can't afford to lose their money, they may become a bigger problem than the film studio would have been. but you need money for film production so you have to put up with some hassles. Once you have the financing mostly secured, it is time to start working on a serious script for your film production. This can be a collaborative process or if you know how to write a script for your film production, you might just do it alone.
