Elevator Music
There is that big well known company whose name has become synonymous with elevator music. Their name is now a generic name for elevator music. All prerecorded, unobtrusive, background music is now called by this name. And it is usually used in a disparaging way. Too bad for that company. The government should declare their brand null and void and let their former brand name define all elevator music. But what is elevator music, really? Elevator music is music designed to be background music. Elevator music, by its very nature should be unobtrusive. Elevator music should create a serene environment without calling any attention to itself. Elevator music should be almost subliminal. You should feel good in its presence without even realizing that you are listening to music. elevator music may just be feel good music, but it depends on what type of elevator music you are considering.
These days, there are many types of elevator music. It is still called elevator music although they don't even play it in most elevators anymore. But in almost every public building, they will be playing elevator music somewhere for some reason. Often elevator music is not just played ot make you experience a happier one. There has been a lot of study done on the effects of music on human beings.
The musical environment that surrounds you can invoke many different states of mind and therefore your behavior in many ways. So some elevator music is designed to hurry you up. Some elevator music is designed to make you feel good about yourself so you feel good about the company that is targeting you with their elevator music. And it seems that some elevator music is designed to annoy you, maybe so you will leave the area.
Why is it that so much of elevator music is such a failure? You shouldn't notice the elevator music playing all around you. the elevator music should be unobtrusive, not annoying. why do some makers of elevator music seem bent on torturing the public with extremely cheesy remakes of popular songs that just destroy a favorite classic and make you never want to hear that song again? Elevator music doesn't have to be bad. sure, most of it is, and it is a big insult to call something elevator music, but smart companies understand that quality elevator music enhances their businesses so they invest in quality elevator music.
