The Art of Painting

The art of painting has been an urge within man from prehistoric time.  The art of painting began with, or before, the paintings and drawings found in ancient caves, showing that primitive man had a feeling for the art of painting.

The most sophisticated and developed art of painting has also been practiced for centuries of recorded time.  In early times the art of painting was practiced on structures and walls, often to depict important events.  In more recent times, from medieval times in Europe and even earlier times in Asic, the art of painting has been practiced both simply to create paintings, and to illustrate events or illuminate religious writings.

The art of painting during the Renaissance period in Europe was primarily employed to create religious images. The art of painting these images was highly refined and detailed
often painting on wood, and with a fairly large range of colors.

During the middle European period, the art of painting became very realistic, formal and refined,  with important artists often sponsored by wealthy families or individuals, including royalty. Lesser known painters struggled for existence as they followed the art of painting.

The art of painting has been revolutionized many times since the 17th and 18th centuries.
One of the most important developments in the art of painting came with a group of French artists who introduced impressionism to the art of painting...upsetting the tradition of conservative realism. Impressionism sought to represent scenes and objects in a new way, using light and color to capture a moment. Post-impressionists continued the revolution in the art of painting, followed by abstract art and newer, more explorative changes in the art of painting which would have confounded Rembrandt and his colleagues.

The art of painting involves multi media, and can include not only different paint...oil, acrylic, watercolor...but other materials to add texture or to actually be attached to a painting. There is almost no limit to what can be employed in the art of painting today.  So-called painting can be basically 3 dimensional in today's art of painting. There are many painters, however, both hobbyist and professional, who choose to create in a more conventional way, applying the art of painting to two dimensional works, using oil, acrylic or watercolor. In a technological world, the art of painting has changed in many ways, but there will always be those who choose to create realistic or impressionistic works through the art of painting.
