Pregnancy Photography

Pregnancy photography has become quite a big thing on many levels. At one time, not too many generations ago, it was common for perhaps one snapshot to be taken of a woman while she was pregnant. Pregnancy photography now is very prevalent and also big business. Pregnancy photography is not only still photography, but also video photography and sonagraphic photography as well. There are so many reasons why pregnancy photography is important to a family, both during pregnancy and long after the birth of the child.

These days, it is almost routine for a woman to have ultrasounds during her pregnancy. When they were first being used in maternity care, they were kept strictly for medical use and hospital or doctor's property. Now, however, these images are printed out and are a common addition to the pregnancy photographic portfolio. Seeing the image of the growing fetus during pregnancy is very exciting. Taking home a photographic copy for your picture album is even better. Pregnancy photography only begins there.

Almost everyone has access to some kind of camera...and most people have several, including digital cameras and camera cell phones, not to mention video cameras. So pregnancy photography is going on all the time. In recent years, possibly as a result of more photographic images of pregnant women being available, the body image of the pregnant woman has seemed to change. Many women used to dislike their bodies during pregnancy, thinking of themselves as fat and ugly. This is not so much the case any longer. People recognize that the pregnant body is beautiful and pregnancy photography is desired now to record that natural beauty.

Another important aspect of pregnancy photography is that of documenting the pregnancy. Photographs taken periodically throughout the pregnancy are fun because you can observe the changes that are taking place that you might otherwise forget. And what a wonderful way to preserve the bodies changing form, a pictorial journey. This also gives the unborn child a chance when old enough to see her mother at different stages when she was growing inside her. Most children love to hear stories about themselves when they were little and to see pictures...well those stories begin during pregnancy.

There are many professional photographers who specialize in pregnancy photography. They use draping and lighting to create the most lovely photographs. Even a woman who doesn't think she is beautiful while pregnant will change her mind after a set of photos by one of these gifted professionals is finished with a set of amazing pregnancy photographs.
