Reading music is a skill that every musician needs to master. So often reading music seems like such an insurmountable obstacle that people lose interest in playing music and being a musician. So many musicians are self taught and they don't know the first thing about reading music and this can really hold them back. Sure there are a lot of successful rock stars out there who didn't get where they've gotten to by reading music. In fact many of them don't know anything about reading music, but they are the exception to the rule. They got lucky or they had so much musical talent that not reading music couldn't hold them back.

There are also computer programs that teach reading music so you can learn about reading music at your own pace and in the privacy of your own home. But if you really want to get started reading music today, you should take a course that teaches reading music. You can find a teacher right in your own home town most likely who can help you start reading music. There are also courses taught in adult education centers that can have you reading music in no time.
Reading music is fundamental to being a well rounded and successful musician, but reading music isn't just for the full time  professional, If you want to enjoy playing an instrument for fun, you need to be able to read music. Reading music can open up a whole new world to you and once you are reading music, you can pick up a song book anywhere and start playing or singing the music in it. Won't that be great? all just because you got started reading music.
