For our purposes, the term seniors will refer to those 62 years of age and over. Active seniors, also often referred to as senior citizens, are seniors who are active seniors in every sense of the word.  Active seniors are mentally active.  Active seniors are physically active. Active seniors participate in life around them.  Active seniors are aware of current events.
Active seniors can be sexually active.  Active seniors enjoy the pleasures of life, and deal effectively what whatever difficulties they encounter.

Active seniors know that age is often a mental attitude. They know, that if they maintain good health and a positive mental attitude, almost nothing is beyond them. A part of being an active senior is maintaining good physical health, with attention to diet and exercise, and the avoidance if at all possible of drugs to deal with physical probllems.  Active seniors are aware of natural healing processes, and the diet and activities that help maintain good health.

Active seniors get regular exercise.  Some active seniors go to the gym.  Other active seniors make a long, brisk walk part of their daily routine. Many active seniors swim, play tennis, bowl and engage in other sports.

Active seniors stay mentally active in  many ways.  Some enjoy games that stimulate thinking.  Some active seniors become politically active in their communities.  Others find jobs or start small home businesses. Some research will reveal that there are numerous small business enterprises which can prove interesting and rewarding to active seniors.

Some active seniors join clubs or local organizations that have weekly or semi-monthly meetings.  Other active seniors have found ballroom dancing to be fun, healthy and emotionally rewarding.  Most communities have local dance studios and many have groups of active seniors who enjoy ballroom dancing and attend dances regularly.

Other active seniors become interested in arts and crafts, and many, quite late in life, become artists of considerable ability. Many communities have organizations which support art, and some active seniors are involved in assisting with local art exhibitions and shows.  And there is community theatre.  Many active seniors with some acting ability become involved and get great enjoyment from performing in community theatre or in working in some aspect of theatre production.

There are almost endless possibilities for active seniors to enrich their lives, stay healthy, happy and positive for several decades after reaching retirement age and becoming a " senior citizen."
