Golf Shoes

Golf shoes are a specialized form of athletic shoe.  Golf shoes are designed both for men and women golfers, and have become more specialized in recent decades as have other types of sports shoes.  Golf shoes are designed to give the specific types of advantages required by those who regularly play golf  Basic features of design and construction are almost the same in men's and women's golf shoes.  Golf shoes are worn both by amateur and professional golfers and offer the same features for both.  Golf shoes are manufactured by major companies who produce a variety of athletic shoes.

Golf shoes are contoured to fit and support the feet.  Golf shoes have a slip last construction which is similar to that in running shoes. A contoured underfoot offers support in golf shoes for long hours on the course. Golf shoes also have a midsole of phylon, a material which provides a good cushioning effect, again both for comfort and support.

Some golf shoes are made of leather, while others are made with a waterproof symthetic upper which keeps feet dry when playing on damp turf. As some avid golfers play rain or shine, a waterproof upper has some advantages.  Golf shoes also have a moisture wicking lining as do some other types of sports shoes.

The soles of golf shoes are constructed with soft spikes to prevent slippage and maintain some grip on the turn even in damp weather. The spikes on golf shoes are different from those on running shoes or shoes for competitive field sports, as golf is a far less active sport than many others.

Varied styles of golf shoes are available and can be seen on the Internet. although the construction may be basically the same, materials and appearance can differ.  Some styles of golf shoes resemble saddle shoes in design, while others have more the appearance of running shoes.  Golf shoes are available to suit varied tastes, and to suit the degree of activity of the golfer.  For the occasional, casual golfer, golf shoes may be somewhat less important than to the avid player or to professional golfers.  There are choices available for all players.

When purchasing golf shoes, golfers should take the same precautions as those which apply to the purchase of all athletic shoes.  Some of these precautions are simply common sense: walk around in the shoe, wriggle toes, be sure the shoes are comfortable and do not rub or pressure the foot at any point.  Golf shoes,be tried on after exercise when the feet are slightly swollen, so the shoes will not be too tight during the sports activity.  Golf shoes should also be tried on when wearing the same socks which the golfer will be wearing when he plays the game, again to insure proper fit. Good golf shoes are essential for the regular golfer if he or she wishes to enjoy the game in comfort.
