After school programs and discipline
How crucial is discipline when it has to do with after school programs? Since almost all of the activities are recreational, does a program have to stick strict rules? Discipline is just as important here as it is in activities that relate to the school. The child engages in a program as you want him to learn more. Discipline is therefore necessary to facilitate learning.
All programs should start out by establishing the rules. The supervisor or teacher ought to explain each rule to prevent future mishaps.
In appropriate behavior should be dealt as and when it happens. Handle the problem in such a fashion that it does the least disturbance. It is unwise to ignore the misbehavior for it will spread on like fire, and very fast you will have a gang of uncontrollable children on your hands. Likewise, however much they protest, children like to function within the safety net of strict guidelines and rules.
When a child misbehaves, it is for the most part due to a thirsting for attention. A supervisor had better observe the children and discover what the child wants. Speak to the child so that you can understand what he or she desires. Appropriate corrective measures should be taken if there are no apparent grounds for bad behavior.
