Keeping children motivated
Enthusiasm in after school activities usually wane off when the
intial excitement is over. Don't worry this is natural. The important thing to do is to
continue the hard work. The difficult part is to keep your child motivated. Its even more important if the child goes in for educational after
school programs.
Start the career-academics connection early on:
Make your child understand the importance of studies. Your child must understand that
having an excellent career is dependent on wholesome learning. TO grow
his interest in studies, organise family activities that are linked to
his studies. Stress the real-world connection to academics as much as
possible.
Set goals:
Making use of example, let your child understand that hard work will be rewarded. Your child will work hard if he understands that achievement will be the reward for the effort he puts in. Such children are more unlikely to give up programs and college at a later stage.
Reward success:
It is important to praise the child when he accomplishes something.
Positive reinforcements raise confidence and increase self-esteem.
Conversely, beware of criticism. It can destroy the delicate ego of children and
play havoc with their minds.
