Do Not Fall Prey To Cycle Injury


Cycling is not only a form of recreation but also helpful for our fitness and health. It is a wonderful exercise that gives fun, shape to our body andinjuries. Yes, in the quest of cycling for health and fitness there are chances for cycle injuries as well. Like with all other vehicles, cycles also have the possibilities of being crashed. To avoid cycle injury, the first thing is to protect your face and head and this can be done only by wearing a helmet while riding on a bicycle. Not only adults but children should also wear helmet even when they are going on short route. Wearing helmets is made compulsory in many states and it said that it can reduce head injuries by 95 percent. You should select the helmet of the head size in which you feel comfortable.

Next critical part of your body which can fall prey to cycle injury is your eyes. Eyes can be protected by wearing sports sunglasses which helps in keeping dust away from your eyes while you are riding.

It is advisable to always wear bright, reflective clothes while riding a bicycle so that others can easily see you. Usually fluorescence colors are used by cycle riders. It is advised not to ride at night. This way chances of accidents and hence of cycle injury is reduced greatly.

Another important aspect to consider in order to avoid cycle injury is to wear gloves to protect your hands. Make sure that your bicycle is properly adjusted and well maintained. If any part of cycle is broken or misplaced, first get it replaced and then go on a ride. You should check your cycle to ensure that the brakes, tyres and other parts are in order.

When it is raining or is wet due to any other reason, avoid using plastic pedals as then can be slippery, leading to cycle injury.

To further reduce any chance of cycle injury you should take care while choosing your clothes for riding. Avoid wearing loose clothes and always wear leg clips to keep clothes away from the reach of bicycle chain. Wearing leg clips also protect the clothes from getting greased.

Also wear knee, elbow and wrist pads available in market to protect the bones and joints when falling.

If you see any slippery surface, do not try to show your stunts on it. Handbrakes may not work properly on uneven or slippery surface. Moreover, to stop cycle on a slippery surface you may require a good distance to bring the cycle to a dead stop. As such, it is highly recommended that if you do not want to have cycle injury, avoid riding on uneven or slippery surface.

Finally, to avoid cycle injury use hand signals when turning and follow the rules made by the government for bicycle riders.

Above all these things, it is very important to choose the correct size of bicycle. You should select the cycle according to your height, requirement, and comfort. If you follow all of the above guidelines, you are assured of an injury-less cycle ride.
