Trips And Tricks Of Learning Drawing

Drawing is the oldest art practiced by mankind. Look at the different cave drawings; -- it had been our ancestors past time, may be only in those days. But before we learned to write down, we used drawing to express ourselves.

There is an artist in everybody, and rigorous practice and training can make anyone good at drawing. May be one cant become great masters like Rueben or Michelangelo by sheer practice; but we can certainly learn to draw well enough in our leisure time to impress our friends and family.

The First Step

The first step in learning to draw is to get the right tools of the trade. Pencil and paper are the first two things you should know well when you are learning to draw. You will be surprised to know that there are many kinds of pencils and papers and even erasers and the quality of your drawing will depend much on which medium you have used. Your tools should be:
1.  A set of pencils in varying degree of hardness (between 6H to 6D).
2.  A ebony pencil for very dark graphite line.
3.  Two different kinds of eraser --- knead able and white.
4.  A pad of sketchpad or bond paper.
5.  Proper lighting like an arm lamp.

The Second Step

Now that you have the tools of drawing lets get down to the business of drawing. Here are some tips you can use to improve your drawing skills:

Start with a regular pencil, one that is not too hard or too soft.
Start drawing simple objects like pears or oranges.
Draw the same picture with different pencils, this will show you how different weight pencil creates different pictures.
Next place the objects in sunlight and try to draw the different structures of the objects that you see through shading using the different pencils.
Learn to use the erasers correctly; dont rub so harshly that it damages the paper. Use the white eraser for large areas and knead able eraser for smaller areas. The eraser can also be used for highlighting an area and create different tone and effect.

No one can become a great artist overnight. Even great artist practiced to reach their perfection. So practice very hard if you are serious about drawing. When you are drawing an object, draw it at least 10 times before you move to the next object. When you are learning to shade an object, also practice at least 10 times with different permutation and combination of shading. You can see for yourself that, with each drawing, you will discover a new aspect of the same object.

Dont feel ashamed with your efforts in drawing. After you have mastered simple objects, you can move to drawing interesting objects. Most importantly, enjoy what you are doing, and then you will understand why drawing has always been the favorite pastime for man since time immortal.
