Halloween Games

Halloween has become a big holiday and I think it is mostly because of the halloween parties. And of course, if you are going to throw a Halloween party, you will need some halloween games for your guests to play. There was a time when, since Halloween coincided with fall harvest time, that Halloween games and Halloween parties were more agriculturally based. People participated in such Halloween games as bobbing for apples, pie eating contests, corn shucking contests, pumpkin carving contests and even pumpkin seed spitting contests. Halloween games were a much more unsophisticated form of fun than most people are interested in today.

Take the bobbing for apples, for example from among the Halloween games. In this one of the Halloween games, you filled a big tin wash tub full of water, then you dumped about half a bushel of freshly picked apples into the water. Now this one of the Halloween games is played by bending down over the tub with your hands behind your back and trying to pluck an apple out of the tub of water, using only your mouth. Oh, what a simple fun Halloween games once were. And oh, how unhygienic Halloween games once were.

I don't think you could get anybody to play these sorts of Halloween games today and anyway, the liability to the host of play Halloween games like these is just too great in our modern litigious society. What if someone chipped a tooth or contracted some disease or worse yet, drowned from playing your Halloween game? You could lose everything you've got. No, Halloween games like this are far too unsophisticated and risky for modern Halloween parties.

Well, since bobbing for apples is out, and nobody wants to shuck corn for fun, these Halloween games are out. So what about pumpkin carving contests? Well, I think here we have the whole liability issue to worry about again. You can't play Halloween games where you give your guests carving knives and have them hacking away at a giant squash. These kinds of Halloween games ar both dangerous and demeaning to both man and squash. At best you can have people carve their pumpkins at home and bring them to the party for judging, but who wants to lug their prize Jack-o-Lantern to some party and risk having it smashed by somebody who is smashed themselves?

No, these Halloween games will not do. There have got to be some fun and safe Halloween games out there. Halloween games where no one is armed or in danger. Halloween games where costumed people can enjoy some safe fun. Halloween games that adults can play...
