Jazz Music
Jazz music is an original American music art form created in the early 20th century in the American deep south. Jazz music was a mixture of African and European musical traditions. Since its birth, Jazz music has spawned many sub-styles and Jazz music has seen a lot of debate about what is true Jazz music and what isn't true Jazz music. If you are not well acquainted with Jazz music, you may only be aware of the few Jazz music styles and artists that have been able to brea out of obscurity and become imprinted upon the mainstream consciousness.
To a lot of people, Jazz music is that cool Afro-American dude in shades whaling on his sax. This hard farm of Jazz music is not very accessible to most people with its musical improvisation and explosive drumming style. This type of Jazz music doesn't make sense to a lot of people, but it has an iconic status in the popular consciousness as Jazz music. But this is certainly not the only form of Jazz music, although its adherents would argue that it is the only form of true Jazz music.
New Orleans style Dixieland Jazz music has been one of the most popular styles of Jazz music and one of the most commercially successful forms of Jazz music. This type of Jazz music has had many revivals and continues to go strong. Jazz music has been through a lot of changes since its inception. Jazz music has gone from dance music, to music you just had to sit and listen to. Jazz music has been marching band music. Jazz music has been strictly instrumental music and Jazz music has had vocalists too.
Jazz music can trace its beginning back to the African slaves that were brought to America who numbered nearly half a million by the late 1800's. These slaves were brought mostly from the west coast of Africa and brought with them their only African musical traditions. AS these Afro-Americans were exposed to European musical traditions, a new type of music evolved. Jazz music. These Afro-Americans learned to play European musical instruments and came in contact with European rhythms and harmonies and Jazz music was born.
Although there is not much agreement on where the term Jazz music came from and what the term Jazz music actually means, there is wide spread agreement that Jazz music is here to stay. And although there isn't much agreement on what it real Jazz music and what isn't, there is some agreement that the Jazz music tent is big enough to hold it all.
