Peace Keeping

You hear a lot about the United Nations Peace Keeping forces, The UN dispatches Peace Keeping forces all over the world these days. These Peace Keeping forces are made up of soldiers from various nations whose governments agree to lend them to the UN for Peace Keeping. Peace Keeping through the use of military force seems like an oxymoron. but sometimes Peace Keeping just has to be reduced to its basic level and at these points, Peace Keeping becomes simply a matter of stopping the fighting. In these instances, Peace Keeping forces are necessary. Peace Keeping forces are often necessary to protect the lives of noncombatants who are in danger of being swept up and injured in the conflicts that are going on all around them.

The international community through the JN, has begun to employ the use of Peace Keeping forces more and more these days. Through the mass media, the world is just too aware of certain conflict zones to turn a blind eye. Countries with long running civil wars or separatist movements that end up endangering many many civilians are ;rime targets for the deployment of Peace Keeping forces.

Many of these local conflicts spill over into neighboring countries, both through the inclusion of hostile armies and through the flood of refugees. This affect on whole regions is what begins to worry the international community. These conflicts can end up destabilizing an entire region which can tin turn, if left unchecked, end up threatening the whole world. So Peace Keeping forces must be deployed to try and help contain a situation before it spirals out of control.

Peace Keeping forces are often used to create a buffer zone between two warring factions. If two combatants cannot settle their differences and keep from attacking each other and breaking peace treaty after peace treaty, then Peace Keeping forces can serve a very useful function. Usually, just the presence of the international Peace Keeping forces is enough to keep the two sides separated while a ore permanent end to the hostilities is worked out.

Peace Keeping can be a very dangerous job. Often the parties involved are not truly committed to the peace process and will reinitiate hostilities at any provocation. The Peace Keeping forces in the middle. That is their role. but being in the middle between two opposing forces can be a very dangerous place for Peace Keeping forces to be. But Peace Keeping has become a necessary strategy in world survival
