Photography Contests


Photography contests are fun. It is exciting to enter a photography contest and have your photos judged against others. Some photography contests offer big cash prizes. some photography contests offer other types of prizes. And some photography contests are just for the fun of competing and winning a blue ribbon or first place medal. There are many types of photography contests. There are international photography contests where you will be competing against photos from all over the world. There re national photography contests where you will be competing against photos from all over your home country. There are regional photography contests where you might be competing against photos from a number of states or provinces or a specific geographical area within a country. There are state photography contests where you would just be competing on a smaller area, within your state alone. And there are community or local photography contests where the people who enter will basically be your neighbors, so to speak.

Often there are photography contests that are sponsored by schools, whether they are elementary schools, which would be fairly unusual, high schools which would be more likely and definitely colleges and art schools. These photography contests would be closed to students or faculty members of the schools only. And there are photography contests that are sponsored by companies. They might be any random company for a special activity for the employees, or a cameral equipment manufacturing company as a way of promoting their products, like film or photographic equipment. These particular photography contests might limit entries to photographs taken or produced using that company's products and the prizes might consist of that company's products.

Another type of photography contest is one that is trying to raise public awareness about a certain cause. These might be sponsored by the related organization or by a person or group who want to raise money for the cause. It would be quite common for this type of photography contest to restrict entries to photos around a particular theme. Take certain wildlife or the subject of patriotism for example.

Many times, certain publications hold regular photography contests that will then publish a percentage of the entries or at least the winning entries in their magazine. This type of photography contest could appear in magazines of any content. Home and garden, parenting, sports or art magazines might all have periodic photography contests in them. These photography contest would appeal to the readers of the publication and sometimes those demographics could include teens, parents, sportsmen, artists, etc.

You can win some great prizes entering photography contest and if you aspire to a career as a photographer, winning photography contests couldn't hurt. In fact some photography contests are also searches for new talent so if you enter a photography contest and win, you just might get discovered and be on your way to fame and fortune due to your participation in a photography contest.
