Senior Citizens

Senior citizens is a term used  most often to delineate persons 62 years of age or older; senior citizens are retirement age or older, but this of course does not mean that all senior citizens are retired.  In fact, many so-called senior citizens now work well into their 70's.  Some professions are notoriously for younger people and offer little opportunity for senior citizens, such as the advertising industry.  Senior citizens are sometimes owners or officers of major aencies and these senior citizens remain active in the business longer.

Senior citizens vary widely in their attitudes toward life and in their health.  Senior citizens who have a positive mental attitude are both healthier and happier than those senior citizens who tend to look at life negatively.  Senior citizens who have maintained good  health and who pay attention to those things which maintain good health can be extremely happy for decades after retirement age.  Senior citizens can be active in community life.  Senior citizens are often active in politics.  Senior citizens can enjoy a wide range of hobbies.  Senior citizens can enjoy dancing and partying.  Senior citixens can have happy love lives and enjoyable sexual activity. Senior citizens can participate in family life and help care for youngsters.

Senior citizens who have had active business careers often continue their activities with the development of small home businesses. Such home businesses can keep senior citizens mentally and physically active and can contribute to retirement income.  Some senior citizens can live comfortably on retirement income, savings and investments.  Other senior citizens must live frugally or develop some source of income after retirement. Some part-time jobs are open to senior citizens with good backgrounds. And the aforementioned home business route can work for some.

It is particularly important for senior citizens to support their bodies and maintain good health through good diet and healthy exercise.  This requires discipline on the part of all senior citizens, as it is easy to get into the habit of fast foods or packaged foods that the senior citizen only has to pop in the oven.  This is not the route to good health for senior citizens, any more than it is good for younger people. It is equally important to remain mentally active,  It is thought that mentally active seniors are less likely to develop Altzheimers disease than those senior citizens who simply vegetate mentally. Reading and playing games which require calculating or use of memory are good for senior citizens who wish to remain mentally active.
