Senior Programs

There are many senior programs at every level from the Federal government to local community programs, both programs to assist seniors and senior programs to help seniors help others. In various senior programs, the definition of senior in terms of age ranges from 55 to 65, but the senior programs in general cover seniors from 55 years on.

The senior program Senior Citizens Resources is a government program which offers information to seniors relative to resources available to them.  Such information in this senior program includes information on care givers and federal and state agencies which offer assistance of various kinds to senior citizens. This senior program also provides information and assistance regarding education and jobs and is an important senior program in many ways.

Another senior program impoartant to seniors nationwide is the National Association of Senior Health Professionals which directs its efforts toward a study of senior health issues.
Another senior program, the American Society on Aging, studies the problems of aging citizens, and also provides local assistance through various venues, including sometimes local employment opportunities.  Another senior program is that of the Mature Market Research Center which relates to the needs, products and activities of aging citizens.

The senior program offered by the Senior Corps serves to connect seniors (over 55 in this case) with other organizations.  Through this senior program, active seniors can connect with organizations which enable them to contribute their talents and experience where they can be valuable.  Some of the senior programs which offer opportunities for seniors to serve in their communities include the Foster Grandparent Program, a senior program which offers opportunity for seniors to act as surrogate grandparents to young children.  Another senior program in this category is the Senior Companion Program.  This senior program offers situations where seniors age 60 and older can help other seniors who require assisted living services.

Still another senipor program which provides volunteer opportunities to seniors is RSVP. This organization directs seniors 55 and over toward significant service opportunities in their communities. Obviously there are numerous senior programs at every level where seniors can both receive help and contribute their talents and services to others. Local organizations and the internet can provide information on the many senior programs extant today. Citizens over 55 years of age iare encouraged to investigate the senior programs available to them.
