Services for Seniors

There are numerous services for seniors which more and more seniors enjoy as they advance in years.  Since the senior citizen category begins in many instances with persons in their mid-fifties, various senior services are used dfferently among the senior population. Services for seniors in their fifties may be more related to job search or financial management, while services for senior in their seventies may relate more to senior communities or senior health care as primary senior services sought.

There are services for seniors offered through organizations both at the national level and at community level. Senior services at the national and broadest level include such services for seniors as the Senior Citizens Resources organization which offers government information on such senior services as care givers, consumer protection organizations and information sources, sources for education and job search assistance, and other services for seniors.

There are numerous organizations which are related to services for seniors in terms of research into senior needs.  Examples of such organizations researching services for seniors include the National Association of Senior Health Professionals and the American Society on Aging.

Other services for seniors are indirectly provided by organizations which refer seniors to volunteer situations. The Senior Corps, for example, directs seniors over 55 to areas where they can provided services to other seniors, such as the Senior Companion Program.  This organization related to services for seniors  also provides programs where active seniors can volunteer services, such as the Foster Grandparent Program. Another program which enables seniors to provide services to seniors and others is RSVP, directed to volunteers over 55.

Services for seniors in some instances include logal organizations, sometimes county-sponsored, which assist seniors seeking employment.  This service for seniors may apply to experienced seniors ranging in age from 55 to 70 who seek part-time employment to supplement retirement incomes. Other local organizations may offer services to seniors in terms of assistance in job search techniques, including resume-writing and interviewing skills.  As it is often difficult for seniors to secure employment in competition with younger persons, services for seniors seeking part or full-time employment can be helpful, even necessary. Services for seniors which assist in finding employment for seniors experienced in the business or professional arenas help both the senior citizens and the business community.
